Review :
'When Opposites Meet' is the story of three unlikely couples and the differences between them. It is the story of love, and the possibility of finding it in the most unlikely of places. It is the story of three couples contrary to each other in three different ways. Ritwika and Chetan are physically opposite, Indu and Lokesh are socially opposite and Jayant and Aditi are emotionally opposite. This story was inspired by the real life story of Jill Dopf Viles and Priscilla who share the same condition of rare genetic mutation.
The cover and the name of this book itself made me very curious. I was expecting a cliche love story but this was very different. Ritwika is wheel-chair bound and through her character, we are able to catch a glimpse of the challenges that wheel-chair bound people face and how the society treats them. Chetan, who is a national-level athlete who is alleged to have used drugs to boost his performance. Chetan claims to be innocent but it is not easy for him to prove his innocence. The adverse publicity that such incidents receive and the politics and foul play involved in the sphere of sports is portrayed well. Through the story of Indu and Lokesh, the author has tried to draw attention towards the taboo subject of divorce and romance among middle-aged people. There is also an incident where we see how the social media and its misuse can adversely affect people's lives. The character Jayant is facing some mental health issues and we understand the different aspects of childhood trauma. Overall, it has three unconventional love stories interconnected through people and incidents. This is a refreshingly new kind of romance novel and I recommend this to all those who love romance genre.
Rating : 4.5/5
