Review :
In 'Bloody Scotland', twelve of Scotland's best crime writers use the sinister side of the country's built heritage in stories that are by turns gripping, chilling and redemptive. From murder in an Iron age broch and a macabre tale of revenge among the furious clamour of an eighteenth century mill, to a dark psychological thriller set within the tourist throng of Edinburgh Castle and a rivalry turning fatal in the concrete galleries of an abandoned modernist ruin, this collection uncovers the intimate - and often deadly - connections between people and places. Scotland has been the home to literary geniuses since time immemorial. Bee Books and Bloody Scotland, supported by British Council India and Scotland, Creative Scotland and Scottish Government, collaborated to launch Bridges Beyond Boundaries as a venture to introduce Indian readers to Scottish literature.
This book had a very unique name which made me curious. The design of the cover page of this book is also very relevant. The concept of creating twelve crime stories set in twelve historical locations is very innovative. I expected stories of crime investigations but it was completely different. Each story is unique in its theme, writing style and presentation. There are stories of revenge and rivalry which will haunt you long after you finish the story. The plots have unexpected twists and the characters are one of a kind. Each story is different yet, they are all connected together by the theme like beads on a string. At the end of the book, they have shown the various locations on a map and we discover a lot about these places and also about the authors who wrote these stories. If you love crime stories, this is the book for you.
Rating : 4.7/5
