Review :
Christine Rome who finds herself in a broken marriage and carrying the guilt of not saving Simon, meets Adam Basil late one night when Christine is crossing the Ha'penny Bridge in Dublin. Adam is there, poised, threatening to jump. Adam is desperate but Christine makes a crazy deal with him. His thirty-fifth birthday is looming and she bets him that before then, she can show him that life is worth living. She has just two weeks; two weeks to teach him how to fall in love - with his own life. Despite her determination, Christine knows what a dangerous promise she's made. Against the ticking of the clock, the two of them embark on wild escapades, grand romantic gestures and some unlikely late-night outings. Slowly, Christine thinks Adam is starting to fall back in love with his life. But has she done enough to change his mind for good? And is that all that's starting to happen?
I picked up this book because of its beautiful cover and because I am a big fan of Cecelia Ahern's books. I was expecting a typical romantic novel when I read the title, but this was not so. There is a love triangle but with a lot of twists. The writing style is engaging and there are lots of interconnected incidents. The book gives insights on issues of suicide, depression and mental health. We can see how childhood incidents and trauma can affect people and their behaviours. Throughout the book, the author has tried to incorporate various other themes like divorce, parental pressure, harassment and bullying, body shaming, misuse of technology and their effect on mental health of people. There is small element of suspense also which makes the story interesting and will keep the reader captivated. The characters are all well developed and we are able to emotionally connect with the book. I really loved the book and would recommend it - it is both informative and enjoyable at the same time.
Rating : 4.5/5
