Review :
Two college friends are gearing up for their first outstation trip together, but the adventure starts much before the journey. One of them seems to be getting it all- he meets his ex in an auto, makes out on a train, becomes the love interest of another guy on a rope-way, and ends up in the arms of a stranger - while the other is left wondering why. They lie to their parents, make friends on the way, get stuck in a haunted building, meet beautiful girls and spend their evenings listening to breathtaking experiences of strangers. But when they finally breathe after a series of adventures, they aren't the same anymore.
The story begins with the protagonist Gaurav and his friend Mayank preparing for a trip to Mussoorie. On his way, he meets more than one of his ex girlfriends and all of them still have feelings for him. Gaurav either has feelings for them or tries to take advantage of their situation. During their train journey, a married woman also hits on Gaurav and he responds positively. This trend, where all the women including married women, swoon over him, continues till the end of the book. The character of Gaurav seems to have absolutely no regard for women and at any given opportunity jumps to take advantage of them. The women are also portrayed as desperate and they all are captivated by the charm of Gaurav (even when we are hardly given an opportunity to feel the same) as if he was the only person left on the planet. The story clearly objectifies women and glorifies the 'macho man' Gaurav. There is lack of continuity at more than one instance. In the conversations, the author has written his dialogues under 'I: ' which is more suitable for a drama rather than a novel which I did not really enjoy. The character development of Gaurav and Mayank is inconsistent and they behave differently throughout the book. Towards the end, they meet three spiritual leaders who give them advice about love and life. These conversations go on for pages and is quite boring. The advice is long and repetitive and could have been cut short. It is mostly about values and morals. The value systems are over romanticized and overrated. After sometime, they deviate from the topic and it no longer makes sense. Gaurav claims to have be a changed person after this encounter but it is hardly reflected in his actions. I was expecting a good travel and adventure novel but I was completely disappointed.
Rating : 1.5/5
