Review :
We are a species fueled by obsessions. Every human achievement, and every infamy, is the result of an obsession that tormented, possessed and consumed. This is a selection of poetry about solitude and other obsessions that have distracted, driven, destroyed and defined us. Spanning genres, emotions, time and place, these works by five poets are a glimpse into the obsessions that we have become.
The book has been divided based on the poets. Each section also has an artistic interpretation by Shripad Bhalerao who has also done the cover painting. I personally did not enjoy his art. The poems by Uma Sudhindra revolve around the themes - soldiers and nature. The poem has profound emotions and I really loved them. My favourite were the ones about soldiers. Binod Panda's poems were more of sentences with a lot enjambement rather than poetry. Trupti Kalamdani has written many beautiful poems on a variety of themes. My favourite from the collection is 'The Fraternal Bond'. I also loved her poem 'Truly Yours' which had a good rhyme scheme. A few of the poems by Dr. Shruti Arabatti I did enjoy, but most of the others I did not. What I did not like about her poems is that they had names which used short forms like 'U R...' and 'B4 The After'. Saurin Desai's poems were not my cup of tea. Overall a good collection of poems based on various themes.
Rating: 3.5/5
