Review :
Rizwan, an ordinary young boy, loses his only friend, Ayeda, to a human trafficking racket. Little does he know that he lost more than a friend. He lost his sanity. He meets people he is not sure are real. Will his insanity tip him off the edge or push him towards humanity's greater good? Murli, an extraordinary artist at the zenith of his career commits an unforgivable crime which results in his downfall. Ira undertakes an unconventional path to achieve her goal which leads to the tragic end of Joseph's and Ira's love story. Their fates are knit together and it changes their lives forever.
The story begins with an old man Dakshesh who is diagnosed with cancer. He goes in search of the three monks who can relieve him from his sufferings. The three monks narrate their life stories to show him the power of the human mind. The book tells us the truth abouth the human mind and gives us fresh perspectives about the treatment of criminals and mentally ill people. I have not read such a well written dark psychological thriller by an Indian author before. The second story about Ira and Joseph was also interesting. The ending of the book was a little too violent and very scary. The author has included versus of poetry in between the narrations which is good but I don't really enjoy poetry much so I did not enjoy it. The graphic details of violence could have been reduced. Also one of the problems I found with the story was that an innocent girl Alia was unnecessarily tortured and the others reacted only when she was about to get raped; as if being raped was the worst that could happen to her. Before that she was tortured a lot more but they never reacted. Also, the story of Joseph has a few loopholes. The book could have been better edited. The story leaves a few questions unanswered but I do not enjoy open endings. This book is not for the faint-hearted. Those who want to read an intense dark psychological thriller will enjoy this book.
