Review :
'Heidi', written by Johanna Spyri is a classic 'for children and those who love children'. It is a novel about the events in the life of a young spirited girl called Heidi. She lives with her gruff grandfather in the picturesque Swiss Alps. Heidi lives an idyllic life until she is forcefully taken to Frankfurt by her aunt to be a companion to an invalid girl. This story speaks about the joy of sharing and helping those in need, the magnificent beauty of nature and the importance of prayer. It is a charming story that has been an all-time favourite.
'Heidi' was one of the books from my childhood that made me fall in love with reading. When I read this book again now, I was able to look at it from a different perspective. The character of Heidi is someone who is very close to my heart with her childish innocence. We can't help but love the way she charms all those around her. Most of the story is set in the Alps and the scenic beauty is described such that it instantly transports the reader to this picturesque location. The book shows how children are innocent and good at heart. They are never selfish and they never try to take advantage of others or their kindness. The characters of book are all easy to relate to and the plot is well developed. This book is ideal for kids and has a beautifully illustrated cover. The language is simple and easy to understand. The font size and its presentation is such that it will not cause strain to the eyes and it is bound to keep the kids glued to the book till the end. At the end of each chapter, there are chapter highlights and at the end of the book, there are questions, so the book is also suitable for reading exercises at school. Adults will also enjoy this light but heart-warming story.
Rating : 4.5/5
