Review :
A small princely state in Rajasthan is the last bastion of resistance against the might of the British Empire. While unrest surrounding the sudden death of the king of Devangarh grows, young prince Rudra Pratap Chauhan prepares to ascend the throne. But the kingdom is in turmoil. The Devangarh army is outnumbered and the British forces are closing in. To make matters worse, Rudra discovers the king’s death may not have been accidental after all. The strange appearance and disappearance of a mysterious hooded stranger and a series of ritualistic murders in which the bodies have been drained of blood, spread panic across the realm. As Rudra struggles to manage his new responsibilities and investigate his father’s death, dark secrets will be uncovered that will disrupt life as he knows it.
The book begins with the introduction of Valikesh, a greedy monkey and his quest for power and wealth. This chapter leaves the readers with an array of unanswered questions. Then, we are taken into the kingdom of Devangarh that was home to the valorous Rajputs, ruled by Raja Ravindra Pratap Chauhan. The British want to take over the kingdom from the Rajputs but the Rajputs do not want to lose their autonomy and bow before the British. Before the battle begins, the king is murdered under suspicious circumstances and the Prince Rudra wants to avenge the death of his father tries to unveil the mystery behind his death. What Rudra discovers on this journey, leaves him astounded. He can no longer trust those whom he had considered his kin. In the beginning, the book was slow, but towards the middle, it picked up the pace and I was eager to unravel the mystery. Nafisa is a character that I really liked but I felt like she was sidelined. Rudra’s character requires a little more depth. The battle scenes are described well and the writing style is interesting. I am not a fan of thrillers and adventures; nevertheless, I enjoyed the book. I think the cover of this book could have been better designed. It does not throw light on the theme and the plot. The author has carefully weaved the story with facts and fiction, mythology and magic. If you are looking for a thriller with action and warfare along with mythical creatures, you will enjoy this book.
Rating : 3.7/5
