Review :
A personal and powerful essay from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. ‘I would like to ask that we begin to dream about and plan for a different world. A fairer world. A world of happier men and happier women who are truer to themselves. And this is how to start: we must raise our daughters differently. We must also raise our sons differently…’ What does “feminism” mean today? In this personal, eloquently argued essay – adapted from her much - admired TEDx talk of the same name – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie offers readers a unique definition of feminism for the twenty-first century, one rooted in inclusion and awareness. Drawing extensively on her own experiences and her deep understanding of the often masked realities of sexual politics, here is one remarkable author’s exploration of what it means to be a woman now – an of-the-moment rallying cry for why we should all be feminists.
I have heard a lot about this book and I had been dying to pick up this book. The name of this book itself drew my attention as it is one of the topics I love reading about. I had only read a fiction novel Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie till now and I had absolutely loved it so I had pretty high expectations from this book. And I must say that the book lived up to my expectations. This book is among my favourites now and I can read it over and over again. The book is an essay adapted from her TEDx talk and is quite short. I finished the book in one go and I was moved beyond words. The topic is something which has been extensively written and talked about, yet the book is refreshingly captivating and there is no redundancy. The language is simple and powerful and the tone is just right. She addresses a lot of common questions and misunderstanding on the subject. I think excerpts from this book should be part of the school curriculum. This book is a must-read for everyone as it has a very strong message for each and every one of us.
